About AMMTE

On June 17, 2011 the Association of Maryland Mathematics Teacher Educators became the 20th affiliate organization of the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (AMTE) -- the same year of AMTE's 20th anniversary.

AMMTE's founding president, Christy Graybeal, received the official charter from AMTE president, Marilyn Strutchens, at the 2012 AMTE Annual Meeting on February 12, 2012 in Fort Worth, Texas.

AMMTE is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of 8 elected volunteer members. The President serves a 3-year term on the Board, one year as President-Elect, one as President, and one as Past President. Other Board members are elected to 3-year terms in an annual election open to all AMMTE members.

AMTE is the largest professional organization devoted to the improvement of mathematics teacher education — it includes over 1,000 members supporting the preservice education and professional development of K-12 teachers of mathematics. Members include professors, researchers, teacher-leaders, school mathematics coordinators, policy experts, graduate students, and others.

The Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM) is the state-affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM). The Council's rich history dates back to over 100 years ago, with a group of educators that called themselves the Association of Teachers of Mathematics of the Middle States and Maryland.
